HDTMPA is an organic phosphonic acid belonging to the class of nitrogen-containing phosphonates. Its full chemical name is Hexamethylenediamine Tetra(Methylene Phosphonic Acid), which describes its molecular structure: a central hexamethylenediamine group linked to four methylene phosphonic acid units.This structure makes HDTMPA an exceptionally effective chelating agent and scale inhibitor. Its multiple phosphonic acid groups have a high affinity for di- and trivalent metal cations (such as Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, and Barium), allowing it to form stable complexes even under harsh conditions.
